FAQ
Why Should I Get A Doula?
Doulas provide compassionate, continuous labor support, leading to safer, more positive birth experiences for both parents and babies. In a Nutshell, Doulas:
-
Reduce the likelihood of a Cesarean birth
-
Shorten labor by helping the birthing person progress more efficiently
-
Decrease the need for pain medication
-
Increase satisfaction with the birth experience

Stats
Studies show that continuous support from a doula, compared to those without doula support, leads to:
-
28% decrease in Cesarean births
-
31% reduction in Pitocin use
-
14% fewer newborns admitted to the NICU
-
34% decrease in dissatisfaction with the birth experience
-
12% increase in spontaneous vaginal births – meaning labor progresses naturally, without interventions such as vacuum, forceps, or episiotomy
Why do you require a non-refundable retainer, and what happens if you can’t attend the birth?
Taking on a birth client means reserving time exclusively for your estimated due window — which means turning away others in order to be truly available for you. The non-refundable retainer reflects this commitment and covers time already invested in administrative preparation, prenatal visits, phone, text, and email support, and shared materials.
As is common doula practice, in the rare case of an emergency on my side, I would arrange for a trusted backup doula whose care and values align with mine and who provides the same quality of birth support. This is a standard part of doula care and not something I’m able to negotiate.

Will having a doula take the place of my partner during labor?
Not at all! A doula is here to support both you and your partner, not replace anyone. I help your partner feel prepared and confident, offering guidance and encouragement so they can be an active, calm presence by your side. Together, we work to create the best empowered team possible for your birth.
I also watch out for your partner’s needs—making sure they stay hydrated, take breaks, and feel emotionally supported—because when your partner is cared for, they’re better able to support you.
